I have been reading threads in this section and noticed sometimes members list ads they think its worth checking out. Can someone do this for my local craigslist (craigslist - cars & trucks)? I would greatly appreciate the help! I am going to ask a neighbor in person to help as well - he seems used car savvy.
Anyway, looking for a reliable used car in the 5,000-7,000 dollar range. Maximum is around $10,000 since I'd like to pay for it at once. I'm not picky, although I like small SUVs and have heard Japanese cars last longer. I also would like something sturdy during the winter, since I'm in New England. I tend to prefer sporty cars that handle well, but I guess with my price range I'll choose reliability/safety over everything else. I don't even know where to begin its overwhelming....like does this one sound good? 2000 Honda CRV - SE
Sometimes I try to check the car values online based on what the value says and some people have quite a high mark-up.
I want to make a smart choice .... any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
before looking at craigslist or a dealership, go to edmonds.com and research the most reliable small SUV released in 2009, 2010 etc. once you get it down to a couple of suv's and release years. google them with your zip code.
thats when you bring in the neighbor and go look at the trucks
The first three would be solid choices; Subaru has been known as the 'Rodney Dangerfield' ('we don't get no respect!') of automakers in spite of the sterling reliability of their automobiles for well over three decades, so anything made by any of those automakers is something I'd definitely take a look at.
If I were going to spend $10,000 on a used car, I wouldn't bother with craigslist either; ask a neighbor or folks in your social circle if they know of anybody wanting to sell a car after you've narrowed down your choices to a handful of probables, and go from there.
I normally help others for free, but as a car buying adviser I charge $400 an hour.
OP, you realize how pointless is your question? No one buys cars on c-list based on pretty pics and what seller put into ad. And we are miles away from test driving our suggestions.
Thanks for the help so far - I did have the a couple of the above mentioned cars on my radar!
Ukrkoz:
As I mentioned before, I do have in-person help to do this. I don't think it's pointless to ask for suggestions on what ads would catch someone else's attention .... I am asking because this is an internet forum and craigslist is a website. That is all.
Sure they do.
I've sold 2 good cars & I bought both of those used. I sold the first because I simply wanted a car with power windows, power locks, and keyless entry. I sold the second car because it was a manual, and I wanted an automatic. Nothing was wrong with the cars.
Some people just get bored of cars and want something different or better.
If you're not too car savvy, it might be worth hiring a vehicle inspector to review your final selection before making the commitment. Mechanics can be hit and miss, but a third-party inspector working for a fee and having the appropriate licenses can be of great value. I bought my most recent vehicle sight-unseen from an ebay seller in another state, by hiring a highly qualified inspector in that region who sent me a very detailed inspection report with dozens of pictures. Took much of the risk out of the transaction.
