My sister had a 2005 Mini and got rid of it after a year due to multiple computer issues.

I wonder how the new line of Fiats here in the US bear up to the tests.

I didn't realize they started at $16k. I was sure they'd be cheaper.

Labor costs in Poland and in Serbia, where these cars are manufactured, are much higher than they used to be.
Just imagine how expensive they would be if they were made in Italy!

My experience, in general, is that drivers of the more common import brands tend to be more inclined to take their cars back to the dealership for service, which means that the dealership can use its experience with the individual models to look for developing issues and correct them under warranty before they get out of hand.

I know for an absolute fact that the results are often skewed by people's perceptions.

20+ years ago some magazine put out a 10 best and 10 worst list of cars in terms of customer satisfaction. I don't recall the models, but a certain Mitsubishi product made the 10 best list, while the exact same model built on the same line but badged as a Chrysler product made the 10 worst list.

Well, here's my own experience from decades of driving.

The first vehicle I ever drove was a '32 Dodge truck with the hand crank, a lever for reverse gear, and a manual choke.
The first car I owned was a '57 Ford Fairlane 2 door hard top - I loved that car.

Another car I remembered was a Ford Taunus I had in Germany. Great car, far ahead of its time with stuff that didn't appear in US versions for another decade.

I then bought a 1964 Dodge 400 station wagon from a cousin who bought it from my dad who bought it direct from the factory.

I probably but another 100k miles on it and only sold it because my wife complained it looked like a hearse.

The worst car I bought was a Ford Focus station wagon I bought from the dealer new. In less than 10k miles, I had to replace the brakes FOUR TIMES and was told it was a design flaw Ford was not going to have recalled for correction. Never, ever going to buy another Ford again.

Oh yeah, also had a Ford Escort that kept scrubbing tires - bought it used. I finally took it to a Mexican auto shop and after a 15 minute inspection was told that it had been in an accident that had been covered up. I big sledge hammer applied in the right spots and the problem was fixed.

Now that is a great argument for the Ford being an unreliable car
