Spent some time viewing crash tests, rollover tests and analyzing various data gathered from testing each vehicle. Its common knowledge that the SUV rolls more easily, therefore there are more numbers given recently, to prove how they preform in a rollover accident. However, i am unable to gather any videos or data on how a minivan would preform in a rollover.
Im starting to believe that most (not all) large suvs only fair better in a crash if its head on or a rear end crash. When they roll most tests show them collapsing, or when hit from the side they seem to fold up just as bad. The roll over test of the ford excursion is sickening, it crushes like a tin can.
Now in the end the question is-
Is it safer to get a very large sedan to take carseats three across?
Or-
Is it the minivan where your rollover chances are less, does better in a side on collision. ...but looses rear end and front end collisions?
Or-
Is it the mid size SUVs, such as the expedition (Sturctural integrity of the midsize suvs seems better than that of their larger counterparts, like the suburban) is safer given front and rear collisions, but lacks the safety in a rollover?
Im seeing than in the end (if you must have room for at least five/three carseats), you are basically trading off one safety feature for another? Playing the odds of are you more likely to roll, or get tboned, etc.
