i agree with this

but for the sake of argument lets say some cars confer more status than others

i'd say something vintage, and obviously rare. like a classic jaguar.

or this. (1970 Mercedes 280SL)

http://comediansincarsgettingcoffee....ftless-bastard

something wildly impractical, but stylish, rare, and not too flashy.

I might be new to this forum, but I'm far from new to the automotive industry. I also happen to work for Ford. Could you please help me figure out how the Fusion's grille looks anything like this Aston's (from 1970s, I went with a couple decades newer just to be safe):

And, furthermore, if the grille made a car look better, what's wrong with that? Should Ford, owning the design and seeing the flaws in the design of the previous-gen Fusion (presumably), have sat on it and kept the Fusion ugly just to preserve some heritage five hundred people in the world know or care about?

It's an utter lack of creativity, hey let's copy a special grill that's iconic to high end car brand. Maybe if Ford could hire designers capable of designing something on their own, great. Now you know one reason I'll never own a Ford.

Uh, you posted a picture of the DBS. Try posting a picture of a DB4 or DB5 (which were around since 1960's.) Nevermind, I'll do it for you.

Blatant rip off by Ford.

Why do you say Ford owns the design? Ford sold Aston Martin years ago when they dismantled the premium cars group.

The nose of the current Fusion is obviously a copy of the Aston. I see nothing per se wrong with that - because car makers copy each other all the time. The Fusion is a very good looking car with mediocre engines.

Some of the members here are like wrestling a pig in the mud. Sooner or later you realize the pig (they) enjoys it (the argument). They will argue against American iron, because they are the types that got picked on in school for listening to disco instead of rock. They will argue against any mainstream ideal no matter how goofy it may be.
