Would you buy a new car on its first year of redesign, say a Camry or Accord?

We had the first year redesign of the Accord V6 in 03 and I have to say that there were many things that were very average and not up to the previous Accords we had: 83 and 97. In short, we were disappointed with the car. And then, of course, the tranny which is known to fail prematurely. I talked to the lady that bought it from us yesterday and she is still very happy with the car. We bought a Lexus to replace it. I think if I were to buy another one, probably any car, I would wait and get the next year up from the redesign.

Agreed.. Mostly. I bought a Colorado in 05, which I am still driving now. It was the second model year of the Colorado.. Now, the Vortek engine in it was pretty well proven.. so far as the I-4 engine goes.. They were also offering an inline 5 cylinder engine with it.. 2nd year of it.. And there was no way I was going for that.

That seems like a pretty good idea, because they wound up having a fair number of head problems with the 5 cylinder engine.. The 4 that I got.. I'm at 162k miles and you could eat off that engine it's so clean.

Never again. We got burned on the 2002 Liberty, of course that was not a redesign but a new platform. We waited for the 2014 Escape since it was redesigned in 2013 and had many recalls.

I bought my 2014 Grand Cherokee as soon as they were released to dealers. Redesigned interior, an exterior refresh and a brand new drivetrain. Other than software updates, it's been solid for me.

it depends on the extent of the redesign. for instance i probably would not have bought the redesigned crown vic in 1992, with its new drive train. but when a car is redesigned and uses a proven drive train, even if it is taken from a different model, that becomes a different deal.

I guess my question is, if you're in the market for a new Camry or Accord, would you buy the next newly redesign at its first year? For Camry is 2017 and for Accord, it's 2018.

There is no redesign for those years. New Camry was released in 2013. Honda and Accord do 5 year intervals between significant changes. So you'll buy same car with just minor cosmetic changes. Likely a little bit more gismos.
RDESIGNED became one of those BS words used in car industry. Somehow it normally ends in more headlights and chrome, and harder to deal with interface inside.
Real redesign is in improved horsepower, mpg, suspension, complete interior change, sometimes even vehicle dimensions. Real redesign is ALL of this in a single car. Like 2013 model Camry. Then they will bleed market with small this and that, trumpeting and bullhorning "redesign" on every corner, so sheeple keep buying. Savvy buyer will know better.
And no, you do not buy year one production of those. You let them have bugs worked out.
But what you describing willl have same power train as 2013 model released as true redesign by Toyota. I know nothing of Accord, as I do not own one. But I do have Camry, so I am regular at toyotanation. That's where you want to inquire anyway, as it's the largest Toyota forum.

I have, twice. First was a 2008 Subaru Impreza hatchback, second was (and is) a 2013 Focus ST. The Subaru was virtually problem-free. The ST has suffered from a few teething problems which have been rectified under warranty. I am aware of the prevalent notion of not wanting to be a beta-tester for a new vehicle, but I honestly couldn't care less. I got the cars I wanted at the time I wanted them and am happier for having done so...twice.
