trading my truck - want a few things fixed beforehand for better trade in value. have a few bad areas that need attention on my hood. may need an entire respray of the hood. i've got a toyota tacoma. its the super white or whatever its called.
Don't trade in if you want the most money for it. Sell it on your own. Don't bother fixing hood you'll never get your money back out of it. Sell as is.
If you gotta paint it 5-700 easy because they need to blend paint into fenders otherwise you'll have a really shiny new looking hood.
You can go to a el cheapo Maaco or Earl Sheib type or go to a body shop speak to the painters. Some guys will do it after work for cheap. Let them know you are self pay. They usually discount if its not insurance claim
I know, I was merely posting it as a reference to what yours might retail for on a dealer lot. I still think that you should forego the paintwork as the dealer will wind up doing it if they feel it will be worth it.
a body shop quoted me 350$ to fix hood (big chips) and also the fender (clear coat coming off). the dealership in SC where the FX2 that I want is, is saying sight unseen my trade in (The Tacoma) is worth $13000. but this is before the hood and fender fix. so should i get it fixed for $350 then trade it in, or should i trade it in as-is and now spend the 350$ to get fixed.
basically i'm doing this so i dont take a big hit in value at the dealership i'm trading it in at.

If you're dead set on trading it in and sight unseen they're willing to give you 13k remember that the 13k can and most likely will MAGICALLY shrink once the four squares comes out. You're also leaving a lot of cash on the table by trading in. If they give you 13k ( not likely no matter what they say over the phone) for it I bet you can get 15 cash private sale easy.
They are gonna pick it apart on trade in. Even if you fix the hood. That 13k valuation is to get you on the lot. If you had comsense you would sell it in the Auto trader and walk in with cash for down payment. Good luck but trading in is a suckers bet. They're gonna work you over.
I would fix the hood. At least you'll have a clean truck. It's not gonna get you any more money but it will be less for them to pick on. Once the dealing happens remember your trade in won't count until after everything is totaled up on the new truck.
