I notice Kia has some cars priced in the $40k+ range and i was just wondering who are the people that buy these cars when you have BMW and others at that same price range
just seems weird that someone would spend that on a Kia...what is the value a year or 2 later?
Why stop with Kia/Hyundai? I can't see spending that much for ANY vehicle, unless you needed a heavy tow rig or were buying a collectible that would appreciate in value.
The most I've ever paid for a vehicle was $8900. Second most was $7100. Third was $5000. Most of the rest have been less than $1000. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. And I'm not solely a "point A to point B" either; I love to drive, and I've owned some really fun-to-drive cars.
Plenty of people do. The Genesis 4 door did not get the investment in the restyle cause they werent selling. Why? Because the performance and features you get cost $20k+ more in the more established brands.
I would cross shop the Hyundai Equus against the Lexus LS or the Infiniti M
I would also cross shop the Hyundai Genesis against the Acura TL or the Lexus ES
Would I buy them? I don't know... I haven't had any experience with them.
If the vehicle in question drives well, looks good and offers the features I want then sure. Newer Hyundai's and Kia's are great cars and upper segment models offer great value.
Only in the North American market does this issue seem to pop up. Americans are very brand-driven and won't tolerate paying large sums of money for luxury vehicles that share a badge with economy vehicles. Lexus, Acura & Infiniti all were started in the USA because the Japanese couldn't market Toyotas, Hondas and Nissans as luxury vehicles. It's the same reason why the Volkswagen Phaeton failed in the US, and why Mercedes doesn't sell its more down-market vehicles (even the de-tuned versions of the E and S class) here.
