OK..so i've got a 1998 Toyo 6cyl LE that runs great w/ 145k mi.
I think it's time I started to plan for another car in the future.
I rarely buy new so I am evaluating the 2014 models for purchase in 2015 or so.
I want a beautiful car that handles nicely, moonroof, navigation - the works, luxury-wise.
Don't need "super-spot" package but 250+HP and ~ 250 lb-ft torque will be plenty for me at my age, as my road rally days are over.

Budget is $40k give or take 3k (not incl. tax).
What would you buy? and when?

I'd get the Q50 and never look back. The recently redesigned Lexus IS is downright hideous with those tiny misshapen headlights and oddly separated turn signals (and I was a huge fan of the first gen car).

Automotive journalists hate the steering feel of the Q50's drive-by-wire system. But as always, YMMV.

The same journalists also find the Prius boring to drive, but I find that the Prius drives the way I want most of the time, so I'm satisfied. I honestly don't need me or a bunch of a-holes on the street trying to prove how well their cars handle or how much horsepower they have. If you want to get your competitive juices on, go to a racetrack and do some weekend laps.

Hmm..I'd pick the Q50 over the IS350. But I'd also look at the CTS, new Regal, Acura TL and ATS

I love the new IS except for the grill. I don't even mind the lights. I would test drive both and possibly a 335i BMW

No cooled seats on the Q50.........I'd get the IS350.

Do either cars offer factory remote start? Does it turn on the heated steering wheel/cooled and heated seats?

Yeah, PokerMunkee.. those two features are sort of important as i live in SoFla now and don't garage my car.
Do the cooled seats really work? And i really want remote start, but would prefer a factory installed system.
Thanks for the food-for-thought.

P.S. I actually like the IS styling very much, especially with the bigger wheels, but style is not as important as performance and features - as long as the vehicle is not fugly.

That's where it becomes relative. I do find it rather fugly but it appears that you're fond of the styling so test drive both cars and see which one you prefer.

The Direct Adaptive Steering system is an option
