Ford owned a stake in Mazda, but never outright owned the company. Recently, however, the companies have split, but there are still collaborative efforts with respect to platform development as the companies have had a relationship for decades.

I didn't know that. I know someone who owns a 2-seater Mazda and never had problems with it like she did her BMW 2-seater.
