When Taurus was the best selling car in America, 50% of the sales were fleet. And much of it were sold to Hertz, which Ford owned at the time. So they were essentially buying their own cars and bragging about being #1!

This is why Ford had such awful resale value because rental companies usually sell their inventory after a year in service and flood the used car market. Retail buyers often keep their cars longer which is why Hondas have much better resale value.

^ This is the main reason, although I personally would like to see Camry change more but the target buyer or majority of non-car enthusiast would prefer the same styling for many years rather than cars that keep changing.

Toyota Camry is the old Buick LeSabre only much more reliable and serviceable.

1)Camry parts are easily attainable..

2)No ifs and or buts!!.... The Honda people are just tooo d--- greedy.. Especially around crunch (the actual sales) time..

3)Camry ride seems smoother to me..

4)With vigilance and luck and not driving like a 16 year old.. One may be able to get 400,000k -500,000 mile with Camry.

camry= soft, less feeling of the roads
accords= more of a drivers car, feel the bumps on the road.

thats the difference between hondas and toyotas.

I would agree with this. When I test drove both, back in 2000, the Camry felt softer and the Accord felt firmer.

I have always like the way the Accord handles vs. the Camry. I actually like the Euro Accord (acura tsx) because of its handling. It is smaller than the Accord and Camry but it is a lot nicer to drive and it is less comfortable since you do feel the bumps more. Its all about preference when choosing the car for your needs.

Camry has higher fleet sales, higher incentives, is riding on a reputation of 90's quality, and baby boomers can't get enough of them. Camry is where the Oldsmobile Cutlass was in 1987...sells well on reputation alone, but it's middle of the pack and there are much better vehicles. I think you will see preferences shift in the next 15 years as demographics change. Average Camry buyer age is now in the 60's.

..........." riding on reputation of 90's quality".

Really ?

I just returned from a 1700 mile trip where I drove my 2007 Camry hard yet averaged between 31-32 miles per gallon.

158,000 trouble free miles and I expect many more.

Quality didn't end in the 90's

Consider the condition of some of our nation's roads. When driving back and forth to work or traveling on a vacation, most families want a smooth comfortable ride. Sportier handling family sedan usually means you feel more of the bumps in the road.

My 2011 Honda Accord V6 has never given any problems in that regard. It's my car and also our family car.

I think a lot of people think of the Accord as a smaller, less comfortable, firmer riding car than the Camry, when in reality, since the 2008 redesign, the Accord has been more comfortable and larger than the Camry. And has also had a considerable safety advantage.
