I4 is not only the cheapest but gets the best gas mileage.
not always. i have owned four fairmonts over the years, three four door sedans, and one station wagon. one V8, one four cylinder, and two inline sixes. the V8 got 19 city, 25 highway. the four cylinder got 20 city and 24 highway, and the wagon got 19 city 21 highway. the other six right now gets 16 city, it hasnt been on the highway long enough to get an economy measurement, but this proves that you are wrong as the four does NOT get the best mileage.
second the four does not meet my needs regarding the performance i want from my vehicles, the six does, though the V8 is better.
as for your civic getting 50, i think thats great, who cares other than you?
this is why there are a great number of selections, so that people can get what they want, not just what they need. if everyone got what they just need, then why build a variety of cars? we could have one manufacturer of cars, and they would be cheap econoboxes that everyone would ultimately hate with a passion. ever hear of the trabant? an interesting little car made in east germany, two cylinder two stroke engine that no one really liked at all for the most part. is that what you want? no choice?
While I have to agree that most people tend to go overboard thinking they need so much power, I can say my 4 cylinder only gets about 16mpg. But it's old, has a ton of miles, and no cat.
Some of todays V8's are getting great mileage, but I'd never need that power.
My Civic with I4 gets 50mpg on the hwy. Dont know any V6 or V8 that can do that.
i think if i put my mind to it, i could build a V6 or V8 that would get 50mpg on the highway. it would also leave your civic in the dust. in fact i might even be able to build a four cylinder that ran on 100% ethanol that got 50 mpg on the highway.
I4 is not only the cheapest but gets the best gas mileage.
How do YOU know that it meets their needs? Reminds me of when politicians claim to know how much money people need to keep. That aside, for anyone to claim that a 4 is the same as V8 or even a 6 is just means they haven't driven one or are willing to put up with a lot. Remember, life is not about needs but wants.
Cool and what can you haul in it besides people? Do you feel safer in that tiny car on the roads full of trucks? How about driving in snow? How about those major pot holes we had this year did your whole front end fall apart hitting one? My truck hit many and the large tires absorbed most of the impact. If i hit those same pot holes in a civic the car would need a whole new front end.
Also people who buy larger vehicles like the roomy feel. If i sit in that matchbox civic I feel like I'm trapped in a cage. Plus I'm 6'3 I'd have to rip out the front seat and drive sitting in the back seat LOL!
Oh please. Most people don't need to haul anything but people.
You like larger vehicles. Good for you. I have no need for headroom like you need. Do I have to buy a large vehicle even if I don't need or want it?
You're playing the same game as the OP - inflicting your preferences on other people.,
because i like them. remember they are the forerunner to the fox body mustang, and built properly, they make great sleepers.
