Instead of the more reliable Japanese ones like Americans do? Is it just nationalism? I don't think the first gen Versa/Tiida hatch looked that different than an euro hatch to be honest, so it's not about styling.

Have you been to Europe?

I was in Zurich and London last fall. The year before that I was in Barcelona. I have been in other places in Europe before that.

There are lots of Japanese and now Korean brands on the roads. They have a very cool Honda Civic hatch in Europe that I wish Honda brought to the US.

Ford employs 70,000 people in Europe and sold a few cars.

Well here in Bulgaria it's mostly Euro junk. And I've heard that the French buy French, the Italians buy Italian.
Oh and Ford is mostly European/German-engineered here, so it's not truly American.

First off, chill out. If this was truly an "inane" thread you wouldn't be posting to it. Second, the question is valid. The question is, if true, why French buy mostly French cars? Is this just a coincidence? Is it the tariffs? What is it about the Japanese cars that they don't like? How come Americans like Japanese cars so much?

I really think it is because those cars are REALLY cheap. Why buy a civic for 15000 US when you can buy a locally built car for less than 12000US. Also, these cars come with smaller motors and less horsepower which equals cheaper registration costs and cheaper insurance costs.
