I'm a couple years out on buying a new car but this is when I usually start looking. Besides the usual suspects (Tahoe/Denali/Suburban/Expedition/Armada(?)) are any truck based SUVs anymore?
I'm looking into my next car being being a truck but I'm also considering an SUV though I dont like that so many share platforms with many cars.
That's good to know about the 4Runner. I love that SUV but was sure they went to Camry based.
I believe you are thinking of the new Pathfinder which went car based last year. The 4Runner has always been truck based and considering Toyota has the Highlander, which is car based, I don't see the 4Runner ever going car based.
The demise of most of the small/midsize pickup trucks, has resulted in the demise of the small/midsize SUVs that were based on those platforms. Which is why Toyota and Nissan, which currently are the only manufacturers selling smaller than full-size pickups in the U.S., also offer smaller than full-size truck-based SUVs.
Not necessarily pickup based, but I would tend to throw the Grand Cherokee into this group. It's Mercedes based SUV platform seems very robust.
What do you need it to do that your limiting your search to Truck based? Is this going to be for towing?
