It's interesting indeed. We'll still need to replace tires to keep the tread adequate to handle rain and snow... but the added security of knowing you just can't get a flat, would be nice.

Good, its about time!, there is just no reason (other than to prop up another industry to feed off the auto industry), that we should have to fix or replace tires, in the lifetime of a modern car. There is so many different things they can do, semi-airless, full solid, etc, etc.

Its things like this that beg the larger question...is it the best thing to keep 'older technology' around, just so the industry can survive?

Yeah initially. I remember when plasma TVs cost 10,000 dollars. I would buy these tires if they were somehow close to what it’s costing me now. Not to have to worry about blowouts or flats....I’ll pay a bit more for that

Another advantage you’ll never need to refill tires or a TPMS system.

As the article stated, treadlife will be about the same as traditional tires, so people will still need to replace them.

I will be interesting to see LEOs try to use spike strips on them.

It would be nice if these airless tires’ price drops to nearly the same level as air tires of the same size. Imagine bicycles, motorcycles, riding mowers, ATVs, and government services (military, border patrol, police, firefighters, & and park rangers) vehicles.

Tires already cost a lot. About $400 a pop for my Corvette and only get around 7k miles out of them on the rear.

They've been showing off airless tires for years.
Nothing ever comes of them because the price and ride quality suck.
