Unfortunately, high speed tailgating is an everyday occurrence for folks like me in the wonderful Garden State of NJ.

Everyone from the self-absorbed with their own importance BMW "ultimate driving machine" maniacs, the speed demons in Honda Civics (riced out or not) <<Why do they think they're driving a sportscar anyway? ..and assorted REAL sportscars, amped up Dodge Rams and GMC trucks to the mentally ill and severely stressed soccer Moms in Dodge Caravans.

I give them ALL a W-I-D-E berth and allow them to pass as soon as it is safe to do so. Not trying to get rear ended or side swiped, just because they're late for work or for a damn little league game.

The OP basically DID answer their own question. SO WHY ask WHY? They are driving recklessly and may cause you to have an accident, so just move aside if/when you can.

I was in the fast lane this morning going 73, in a 65 limit area, and a person was riding my ass. I was passing the cars that were on my right. I moved over as soon as I could. You win some and you lose some. Be curtious and move over. It doesn't matter if you are going the speed limit or not.

Why does it bother you? Just flip up your mirror and ignore them.

Everyone knows that the real limit is 5-7mph over the posted one. People going the posted limit are going slow, sorry if that offends.

I've been driving 5-7 over for years and years and never once been stopped.

Why were you even in that lane at that speed? Unless you were passing someone and hadn't had time to move the hell back over you should not of been there.

I hate tailgaters too...I very rarely drive in the left lane only to pass. I'm in the right lane doing the limit or 5-7 miles over it and I can't see your headlights you are tailgating so close...hate those people.

The part that confuses me is when I'm in the slow lane, going the speed limit and I still get tailgated when there is room to pass.

Definitely not what I meant. If there is room for them to pass on the left, you have done everything you could. Even if there isn't room on the left for them to pass, you are in the right lane so they should back off a bit until there is room for them to pass. Unfortunately, there will always be those clowns on the road that tailgate.

This happened to me this morning and it bugs the crap out of me because I have been rear ended by somebody riding my tail. Here is the thing, I was on a quiet residential road going the speed limit...30mph. Not 5 to 7 over since people in my town do get tickets on that road for going 5-7 over the speed limit. Not to mention this is right after I dropped my kids off to school and came out of the 25mph zone. This was a single lane road with no shoulder so there is no place to park or pull over. This was just some prick trying to get to work, I don't get why he has to be an ***** to other drivers on the road.

If the vehicles in front of you are going faster than you, then either speed up or move over. The left lane is for the fastest traffic. Not the traffic that is going the speed limit.

When road conditions permit, traffic in the USA will move faster than the speed limit. That's just the way it is.

Traffic is like blood flow. Don't impede it.
