What's the farthest you've driven alone in one day?
My cars have traditionally been too unreliable to make it much out of state. I think the most distant I've ever driven my own car was Spirit Lake, Iowa, about 400 miles or so via my roundabout way (I hit as many counties as possible, as my goal then, now complete, was to visit every MN county). That was in one day.
I recently was planning a road trip in my own car, initially to Louisiana and later to Arkansas in my old Buick, but upon being discouraged by family members but the bookings on Hotwire final, I went out and got a cheap rental. Being over 25 has its perks, doesn't it? I drove to St. Louis through Madison straight through, about a 700-mile trip, factoring in an error that took me about 5 miles off track. I left at 11:30 AM and arrived at 1:00 AM, stopping in Madison and trying out Venezuelan food (so I can check that off), and at quite a few truck stops along the way. I came back a different way with nights spent in Hannibal, MO and Cedar Rapids, IA.
about 500 miles from NY City to Creedmoor, NC or to Rocky Mt NC, to Roanoke Va. I know people who can do more alone but 500 miles is enough for me in one day

I once drove alone in a 1980 Datsun 210 from Oakland, CA to Spokane, WA, stopping only for gas and food. It took 15 hours, and was about 870 miles.
I have done the trip between the SF Bay Area and Seattle many times alone, in various vehicles, 14 hours and 800 miles.
I've gone from Dallas TX to Jacksonville FL, which is about 14-15 hours and 1000 miles. I've done it twice, once to bring a car of mine to Jax, and then another time to drive back with a Uhaul and a car trailer in tow. Hated it both times, but the first time was by far the worst, I left late in the day, and there was a storm in Louisiana that was moving eastward. Literally was raining on me for almost the entire 1000 mile distance, so visibility sucked, and everyone was driving slow as hell.
About 850 miles in one day from Alabama to upstate New York. It took about 13 hours and I only stopped twice. I no longer drive long distances though, if I have to drive more than four hours I will start looking at flights.
New York City to Charlotte, NC. Left 8 pm, drove all night, got into Charlotte 6 am. Miles of empty highway for a stretch compelled me to go 85 for a time.
Left NE Ohio on a Saturday morning. Arrived in Tucson on Monday afternoon. Stayed Saturday night in Missouri and Sunday night in Texas. 2100 miles.
Just set the CC and listened to the radio. Time went faster than I thought.
I did not drink anything after I woke up. Had a few sips of water while driving. Did not need any restroom breaks. Waited to eat when I got to the motels. That wasn't by choice. Had my dog in the car, it was summer, so I couldn't leave him in there. When I stopped to walk and feed him I had a pack of cheese crackers. That kept me until I got to the motel.
I was moving. I wouldn't have done that for a vacation.
In ten years or so kids are going to think "so what"? Pretty soon we will have self driving vehicles and I will start doing long drives again. I will buy an RV with a bathroom, bed, kitchen, broadband internet and tv; driving non-stop across the country will be nothing.
