because it's in like 5 pieces and I didn't think taking a pic of it was helpful in that condition (dad took it back) - it's actually smaller than a dime.

It is "stuffed" into a hole located along the length of the brake pedal shaft much like a lego piece. Since we want the brake light to engage asap when depressing the brake, as soon as the brake light switch no longer contacts this disc along the pedal, it will turn on the lights.

I called rockauto and they said to refer to a repair manual since they could only guess at the name of a piece like that.- I found one online and it didn't even mention the brake light switch/assembly or brakes at all.

I guess I'll try a Mitsu dealer tomorrow.

EDIT>> Chris V was correct above. I google "rubber bumper for brake light switch" and found a pic. Autozone says I have to buy the switch along with it so we'll see tomorrow. Thx.

If you can, find this part in a boneyard. Nothing wrong with buying a part like this used, and finding it on a wrecked car is probably easier than finding it new.

I don't get to read this forum everyday, I forgot about this.

OP. you should have message me, I d show u a trick.

If there is a round hole on the back of your brake pedal. Go get a round head bolt big enough to cover that hole. Get a nut to tighten it. Waaaallllaaaa problem solved. For 50cent.

Then again. I have no idea. What's under that eagle talon. Haven't seen one of those since 1995.

I m throwing ideas from what I have done with other cars.

Good luck.

^ curious, metal on metal contact (the screw head) for the switch would be ok there? Is it "closing a circuit"? Not an electrician by any means.

Your switch is made out of plastic. Only the inside component are electrical. If I am correct. The head of the switch should be white plastic with a spring inside.

You ll be safe with my technique. If your still not sure. Cover it with duct tape for your peace of mind.
