I have a problem, in that I like to get new or different cars. So I have a history of spending a lot to keep changing. No, it does not make any economic sense... but I am not doing it as an attempt to live frugally.
Starting in 2007, I have had 5 daily drivers(07 WRX, 03 Wrangler, 09 Volvo C30, 13 Outback later given to wife, and 13 Charger), and 3 "second" cars. Of the DD's, 4 of the 5 were new.
I've never bought a brand new car, and been the original owner. I've purchased many cars, but I typically buy them about 4 years after they came out, so they cost significantly less than new. We just bought a 2009 Acura MDX, so 5 years old, and we paid a little over half what it cost new.
We had been buying a new used car every year with taxes but last year a car literally dropped from the sky for us and we didnt need to buy a new one!
Since you say "literally" I assume you mean that a new car fell off of a transport tuck and landed on your car, totalling it out, which means you got a new car on the insurance company's dime.
Because I can't imagine a new car literally being dropped from the sky (a la the WKRP Turkey Drop) being driveable once it landed.

Reason: spelling
Maybe I'm the only person in the world who ever bought two new Renaults.
Nah, I worked with a guy who had two Alliances. One was a convertible that he bought wrecked and rebuilt, the other was a sedan that he stumbled across and bought while looking for parts for the convertible.
My current car is 9+ years old. No plans to get rid of it until my daughter gets her driver's license - then it becomes her and I get a new car.
My car before that was originally my father's - he had it for 10 years, I had it for another 3.
My car before THAT I only had for four years. At that point I moved to NYC and no longer needed a car (my dad sold me his car when we moved to the NJ suburbs a few years later).
My husband's van is 10+ years old. No plans to get rid of that any time soon either.
I've been in the bad habit of buying a new car every 1-2 years. Yea it's fun, but it's also expensive.
But I can quit whenever I want, I swear! I bought a new Jeep last month and it's the last time; I'm gonna keep it. I'm gonna stop trading... gonna stop.
