Well enough to avoid emergency maneuvers and accidents. I have decent situational awareness developed by riding motorcycles so I am rarely surprised by other cars or trucks. I probably use cruise control set at the speed limit plus 7 or 8 mph on the interstates more than I should. I also probably drive and ride too fast on back roads. I keep good summer and winter tires on the car that let me get away with sometimes going way too fast.

Given that Larry the Lush gets a one and an accident free professional driver a 10, I would say I am a strong 7. I still have much to learn and a tendency to treat an empty two lane as a street rally course to better control.

Agreed. Why is speeding given a pass? People who speed are demonstrating poor driving skills. I read something once that said that 85% of drivers feel that they are better than average. It appears that is true on this thread. Statistically, it is impossible for 85%+ of drivers to be better than average, of course. I am a poor driver, about a 4, I'd say. It is difficult for me to remain attentive. However, I live in the country in a very spread out area. I had a head injury some years ago. So I drive as little as possible, and never when I feel tired.

LOL @ everyone rating themselves above average. I guess above average is the new average, huh? You're doing it right, and everyone else is doing it wrong?

Anyway, I'd give myself a 5.5 or a 6. I stop behind stop lines, don't run late yellow lights, parallel park better than anyone else, and haven't gotten any tickets or into any collisions. BUT I can admit that I'm pretty bad in stop-and-go traffic, and I'm not the most considerate driver on the highway.

It'd be a solid 9 or 10 on regular roads and empty highways, but pushing a 4 in traffic on highways.

Honesty... how refreshing.

Which statistics? I think most Americans drive reasonably well enough. Certainly they are better than Russians at driving, if all those youtube videos are to be believed.

I think many (including myself) like to rate ourselves a bit higher than it actually is. I've driven an early 90's E series Mercedes 200D from the southern part of my country to the northern part during extreme winter conditions. And i didn't hit a single moose or reindeer.

Therefore i have no choice but to give myself a 10.

I would rate my driving as maybe slightly above average. I think that in certain areas, my skills are slipping because I don't drive a lot, and the driving that I do is mostly easy driving.

My backing up skills are poor, but otherwise I am generally good at anticipating what will happen and avoiding trouble.

I am law abiding other than speed limits, particularly on the highway, but I don't necessarily consider that bad driving up to a certain point.

Overall, I would rate myself a 6-7 out of 10.
