People that buy these cars see them as an investment and not a car

Forget that. If I was rich enough, I'd stare at the 'cuda in my warehouse and build a restomod hemi clone to drive the hell out of. Hopefully it ends up in a museum so normal people can at least go see it.

Funny how much matching serial numbers are worth though. I guess some guys with deep pockets just can't put a price on the memories of their youth.

You realize it's now the only 1 left like it with a numbers matching drivetrain. Break the trans, engine or rear and much of the value is gone. I would buy it as an investment and build a clone to beat the snot out of.

That exactly how it is. The only problem that I see is that I find it hard to believe that the car will continue to increase. What will it be worth in the future, 4, 5, or 6 million?

I had my fun in a 71 hemi 'cuda I bought from a wrecking yard for $900. It took me a few months to fix. But kept me off the streets (temporarily, I needed to reach age 16, as my 'farm license' would not have been too well received by the State Patrol if driving the 'cuda).

It would be worth about $9,000 these days, but has been LONG gone from my collection. For endless ages. ... one of many.

Maybe a car that is 1 of 11 will continue to rise for a while, but ultimately most of the prices on these collector cars will crash.

The price of the "standard" collector car is fueled by the amount willing to be paid by rich people of that car's generation. Once they are dead, the interest - along with the high prices will wane.

I watched those auctions in their entirety... Some of those cars went for ridiculous prices.

I was in love with that 1970 Mustang Mach 1 in red with white stripes. Actually went for a reasonable price, too.

At the moment... many a 'dream'n kid' who wanted a '71 Hemi Cuda is getting about ripe for 'Mid-life-crisis', I would expect the 1 in 11's to hold value pretty well. Some will wane, but I think true USA Iron is a pretty sure investment. Folks from Europe and AU and NZ clamor all over these collectibles. and they are FAR more passionate and well funded than the typical USA collector. I met a NZ guy last week in Singapore, who had dropped 1/2 million 'sight-unseen' on a USA collector car, he was just an average Joe with 6 such cars in his stable.

One of my coworkers got disillusioned by the USA Stock Market in 1999, and transferred all his retirement holdings and bought collector cars in his rollover IRAs. He is now a very rich man. He strategically rolled Traditional IRA money into ROTHs and bought the most speculative cars in the ROTHs (tax free gains). That was smart!
