Yesterday I went online to look at pricing for rotors and pads for my 2001 F150 on the Napa website. They offered a complete kit of rotors and pads for $130. I drove 15 miles to the store with the printed out version of my reservation and picked the parts up. Got home and got the rotors on, but my anti squeal that you put between the pads and calipers had dried up, so I sent the wife down with the old in a zip lock bag and she came back with the wrong stuff. After going back to get the right stuff I noticed the pads were wrong, so back again to get the right pads. Once I got the pads in the caliper wouldn't bolt on right. After scratching my head for a bit I noticed the rotors were 1/4" wider than the old ones. Son of a *****, the rotors were wrong too. 8 hrs later, and several trips in to town I finally got it done.
Turns out the Napa website let me reserve parts for an F150 supercharged 5.4 without asking me what my truck was? What really pissed me off was the parts counterman said it was my fault. While I've always thought highly of Napa, whoever writes the HTML for their website should be fired. In my opinion it should have never allowed me to reserve anything without asking what engine, GVW, or whatever caveat required to get the right parts.
According to their site, if you input the correct information on your vehicle you would not have had this problem, everything is clearly spelled out if you read it !!!

I disagree, if you go to O'Reillys, or Autozone they both make you input the drivetrain combination prior to proceeding. How was I to know there were different combinations based on drivetrain? It should have never allowed me to order something specific without confirmation.

So, I followed your link, clicked 'Brake Systems' on the LH column, clicked 'Pads & Shoes', then 'Brake Rotor & Pad Axle Kit - Front'. It brought me here:
As you can see, there is only one option. Nowhere along the line did it ask for engine displacement, drivetrain configuration, GVWR, or any other factor that often goes into determining brake sizes when there are multiple options, meaning this set should work with ANY 2001 F-150 (at least, per NAPA). *****EDIT**** I went back and selected all the different engine options. Didn't change the end result, so this statement is accurate*****
So, if that PN is what the OP ordered, then I would say it was NOT a 'user error'.

I was likely editing my post when you read it. But, yes, I did. However, if you left the engine displacement field unchecked, it disappears once you get into the 'Pads & Shoes' section, meaning that NAPA assumes all pads and shoes for a 2001 F150 are the same (or planned to let the user know the difference in the description of the parts, which was not the case in the link I provided).
Put it this way... If anyone can get the NAPA page to show a different PN for the 'Brake Rotor & Pad Axle Kit - Front' for a 2001 F150, post a link. From the bit of tinkering I've done, I'm doubtful it's possible.
