I've heard of people baking cakes in the dishwasher, so I guess it is a multi-purpose machine. LOL! I would never put greasy, oily car parts in my dishwasher though. There are dishwasher cleaners that you can buy at Wal-Mart and other stores. Good luck!
Never washed car parts in the dishwasher, but have taken dirty dishes to the car wash. The detergent pressure washer cleans them right up. You might think about doing the same with the car parts.
I'd be really careful about putting anything into a dishwasher that had grease or other automotive chemicals on it. The interior of a dishwasher has plastic surfaces that will absorb them, and then release them again when heated. I'm not sure how much of a safety concern it would be, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were to relaese some pretty unpleasant odors when you use it again to wash dishes.
I put all kinds of things in the dishwasher. Not mixed with dishes, needless to say. I don't put in any thing with large particulate matter because my dishwasher doesn't have a sophisticated filtering system. Mine was cheap when the builder put it in this house 15 years ago and it's still running fine. So I don't baby it.
I consider myself fortunate that I will never have to eat off of dishes that came out of your dishwasher.
