I had a turnover ball on a 96 3/4 ton. I had the ball turned up all the time. I couldn't get it to unhook and flip over. In my current pickup I have a gooseneck ball and 5th wheel hitch. The ball is mounted to a plate, bolted to the frame rails and sits under the box.
The 5 wheel was an afterthought. Next time I'll add the 5th wheel rails, hitch and get a gooseneck ball that will install on the rails.
I doubt I'd use a b&w. Not a huge fan. I do see the appeal and would like to like them. The ball in the middle of the bed is a pain in the backside.
Are you talking a true 5th wheel or gooseneck ball setup?
I am not a fan of their ball setup. I do like thier 5th wheel hitches.
We're planning on buying a 5th wheel trailer. So I'm gonna need a hitch. I was trying to avoid having the traditional cross rails bolted to the bed. Their Companion hitch system allows the use of a hitch that does not use rails cross wise on the bed. I would require me to have to buy the gooseneck hitch and the regular hitch that connects to the gooseneck ball hole for the look I want. It looked like a visually/aesthetically cleaner look but I can live with bed rails too. Their hitches seem really well built but I don't know anything about in bed hitches as far as Quality or best attachment system. I mean I know the big brand names Curt, Reese, judg trying to educate myself. I only want to buy a hitch once. I rather overbuy in size and ratings. It's going on a flatbed 1 ton truck which has a low side commercial truck bed and limits me to low profile hitches due to bed floor height

I think you'd be fine with a b&w. If I ever were to go the turnover route I'd get a bed mat that would roll up when using the ball and cover it up with stowed.

I frequent the rv.net board. It's free and has a very large membership, so just go there and look through the 5th wheel forum (or one of the others) to find a few threads about hitches, and if you want more, just post a question about them.
B&W hitches seem to be very popular and appreciated by those who have them. My next truck will likely have one. But there are other brands of good hitches that can be easily removed and leave no rails in the bed. You'll get lots of opinions at rv.net if you ask.
I have a fold over style ball. Works great, tucks away nice, clean and easy.
