I currently live in Miami, fl and will be moving to Tacoma, wa in a few months.
now, my car is leased its under me and my dads name. I pay for the car he pays insurance. would it be a problem with the lease agreement/insurance company?
Yes. First, notify your lease company of your move. Because sales tax rates may be different between your old location and your new one, the tax portion of your monthly payment may change — up or down. This should only amount to a small change in your total payment, unless you move into a state, such as Texas, in which taxes are required to be paid, in total, up front. Registration fees and property taxes may also be different.
I believe most insurance companies don't really care where the Policy Owner resides as much as, "Where the vehicle is garaged?"
If it is a national company, as long as you are listed on the policy as the primary driver, I would think you would be able to change the "garage" location fairly easily, however, be prepared for a change (probably increase but it could be a decrease) in premium.
I would definitely NOT drive the vehicle in the new location without advising the Insurance Company as you could learn the hard way that you really do not have insurance.

You may also find that the insurance premium is much higher or lower when you have moved. Coming from the San Francisco area ours was much lower when we moved to Sammamish, WA due to lower crime and less traffic. Hopefully your company operates in both states as ours did, we simply had to change agents.
