My car vibrates if I start to slow down. It drives fine but say I am about to stop for a red light the wheel shakes. A mechanic checked my brakes when I fixed my car(I was in an accident) and he said they were perfectly fine. Could it be the rim? When I was in an accident a year ago I ended up getting a flat. The street I was on was under construction so there wasnt any way for me to pull over to the side (barriers and it was two lanes). I had to go a bit of a distance with the flat to get away from all the traffic.

I need to go to SA in a few weeks (from El Paso to San Antonio) and I was wondering is it safe to go that far and back with the tire like that? It's been going on over a yr now and I do A LOT of driving in the city. This trip is already paid for this is an expense I dont really need . Can it wait till I get back? Or is it a must to fix?

Note, before I leave, I am having the tires checked as well as getting my car serviced

It would be nice to know what year make and model.

If your wheels was bent. It would vibrate all speed.

But whatever you drive. It sounds like your rotors are out of round..

I would look for a shop you Know or trust. Ask them to test drive it with you.

I don't even know what shop to recommend as I don't trust any.

It's a 2011 Nissan Sentra. I tend to avoid shops since they like to screw me over since Im a female who knows nothing about cars

About being screwed as a female is not true. Shops screw every body. Sometimes cute fun happy females get treated the best.

Take it to Firestone. Have someone test drive it with you, ask for an estimate and what NEEDS to be done. Do what is needed.
Estimate should be free.

It is the front rotors, just go in there and tell them that you need the rotors resurface and stick to it. Get pads if possible because the labor will be the same at this point.

If its happening only when you're braking/slowing down then I'm almost sure its your rotors. They're warped and need resurfacing or replacing if really bad.

Just to be clear, when exactly does the car vibrate? When you brake or when you get off the gas and coast? Vibration under braking is almost always a bad rotor, which can be turned or replaced. If the wheel is vibrating when you are just rolling along without any input from the gas pedal, it would be something different.

A shaking steering wheel while braking is a warped rotor. You might also be able to feel a pulse on the brake pedal. A shaking steering wheel at steady speed could be tire out of round, unbalanced wheel, bent rim, really bad upper/lower ball joints.
