A couple years ago, I started taking the bus to work 2 nights out of 4, and, initially, I felt guilty leaving my "poor" car in the garage those nights! Sometimes I could almost hear "him" talking: Oh Lord! There goes my freedom! Before long, he'll be taking the bus 4 nights a week, and here I sit staring at the garage walls day after day!

This week I took the bus 3 nites a week, breaking my promise to my car I'd take "him" to work 2 nights a week. And? I feel so guilty now I went out to the garage and promised my "poor suffering car" a long ride on one of my 3 nights off, just to cheer "him" up a bit! Wipe the "tears" from its headlights!

And if I renege on this promise? Being that I all but view this car as human? What may he do to exact revenge?

A tire blow-out on a busy freeway? Windshield wipers go kaput on a rainy day? Run out of gas with the gauge saying Full?

Sell this car for no good reason, or for a newer one (I have an 85 Toyota Supra)? Oh, let's not go there! The first day with a new car, someone sails thru a red light and the car is totaled! And "he's" laughing from "his" grave! 'til death do us part! Serves you right!

I have to admit that sometimes my upholstery does resemble shapely buttocks in tight leather pants.

I knew someone that would keep a radio going in their garage, tuned to classical music, for the sake of their car, so I'm not that goofy! Now! Having your car face a big screen TV all day, to watch stock-car racing, now that would indeed be goofy, plus!

I make it appoint to pat my 91 YJ on the hood and say goodnight. I swear if I don't do that, the damn thing will act up the next day. lol

Never let's me down and strands me anywhere....but still.....she let's me know.

I walked out one day and saw a headlight was broken from a rock strike. I said "Aww! What happened to you?!"

I always talk to that thing. lol 2 feet of snow....we're talking. Crossing a creek? We're talking. lol

It's got a personality. I can't help it.

That sounds kind of crazy; humanizing a car.

Although, I have seen a truck that had a set of those distasteful "truck nuts" hanging from the tow hitch. (Bleh!)

Is that what you mean? (I hope not.)

Magna: it's actually a fact, I read it some time ago, research polls proved that 68% of car owners talk to their cars, at some point in time! And for the 32% that don't, I'll bet they have more car problems than those of us to talk their cars! Serves them right!

Me, talking to my car, seeing an accident on the road: Look! Look! That car got its face smashed in! Don't you feel sorry for it! I'd sure hate to see your face smashed in like that! Oh the pain! And will it go to the hospital or to the graveyard?

I really enjoy my cars and take great lengths to keep them working and looking in tip top shape. However, I have never assigned "feelings" to them.

You can tell which vehicles have feelings. It's only the ones that go faster after you wash them or change the oil.

I will admit to in my head occasion thanking my vehicle for getting me through a bad situation unscathed.
