As most people now have cell phones, many state transportation departments have removed a lot of their roadside emergency call boxes. I was wondering, does your state still have any?
Here in Arizona, the few call boxes that remain are mostly located on rural state or U.S. highways outside the Interstate Highway System.
Actually, based on the page, it looks like the call boxes have already been removed as of January 2014. FDOT is now in the process of removing the concrete pads where they stood.
What are the chances to have a break down in front of them?
The ones along I95 in Florida were only a mile or two apart, which meant when you did break down you didn't have to walk very far. With the Road Rangers patrolling, and drones in the air, the call boxes are pretty anachronistic, but they were a comfort once upon a time.
I have been a licensed driver in Texas since 1986, have yet to see one.
