so here's the story, my dad was late on child support so my mom and him signed a contract where he could give me the jeep. the problem now is that the title wasn't under his name and im having a lot of trouble trying to find the original title owner. is there any way for me to find that person and switch over the title to my name?

Can you apply for an abandoned title? Probably easier than trying to find the original owner especially since the title was never transferred....I am pretty sure the original owner can say it is still his/her Jeep.

Did you try calling your local DMV and ask what they suggest you do?

So who's name is on the title? They are the last legal owner of the Jeep. Who's name is on the last registration? Is it current? Who was paying the insurance? How did 'Dad' get hold of the title? Why are you accepting something he doesn't own. This bogus deal does not relieve him of child support debt due.

was the title signed and notorized in preparation for title transfer to your father? if so then you should be able to just transfer the title into your name.
