Also Op you may want to look at the Second Gen 2007-2010 Ford Explorer Sport-Trac:
A new Sport Trac was released in early 2006 for the 2007 model year. It was based on the new, larger fourth generation Explorer. Unlike its predecessor, it features the 4.6 L 24-valve ModularV8 engine as an option. The second generation Sport Trac features an all-new reinforced frame and four-wheel independent suspension, compared to the first generation. To improve safety over previous models, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control has been added as standard features. Additional options include the SYNC system in a new 2008 package.
I went through a broker as friends had a very good experience using this particular one. I test-drove two vehicles - a massive Dodge Ram and a Subaru Forester. Both had 40,000-50,000 miles and were the exact same price. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the Ram. And I loved the Subaru.
I went with the Subaru. It's maneuverable, easy-to-park and eminently sensible. I am not moving every couple years, I'm not selling things at flea markets, I'm not hauling things for my father, etc. So I went with the practical choice. Having driven a pickup for more than 15 years though, I am a little bereft. But I'll live
It will be nice to have a car I know is reliable and will last a long time. I really do love driving it. Now I just have to get rid of the Ranger.
Edit* Saw you went with a Subaru. Also a good choice, especially in winter! Hope you enjoy! The full sized trucks are great (I have a 13' F250) but more than you need in about every way.
I'm surprised only a few people here recommends Subaru, they are synonymous with AWD. Almost all AWD systems out there if it's not Audi, Subaru, Honda SH-AWD, then it's not worth even getting. Most systems advertise AWD but they are not AWD full-time. In some AWD system in many SUVs, they advertise AWD but they don't have a good enough AWD program to make it easy to drive. I've driven Jeeps and their AWD system sucks, does not actively switch the power front and back making driving very lethargic.

Thanks! Just sitting behind the wheel of the Ram made me giggle with delight. It would have been the perfect vehicle for me right up until I bought and moved into my house last year.
But I'm headed to downtown Denver tonight - parking something that big would have been HORRIBLE. The Subaru can go anywhere.
There is a certain irony to the fact that by the time I could afford to buy a decent full-size truck, I no longer needed it.
