will it be used more for Freeway/interstate driving? or stop and go city traffic?
Since the best compromise IMO for both would be a Mid-size I.E Ford Fusion, Mazda 6, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Subaru Forrester and for the price point best bet is to look a 2-3 year old lower mileage well maintained Certified pre-owned with some factory warranty still left on it.
If this is going to be just A-B transport, no need for a ton of cargo room, 4WD, etc, you really can't go wrong with the Mazda 6.
If you are looking for a good deal, check out a 2014 Chevy Impala. They are being phased out with a new model incoming. They are pretty darn reliable and spacious with over 300hp on tap and decent millage.
However, due to ingress and egress, my pick would be a small SUV like a Honda CR-V.
Thanks. I am thinking bare bones. Mazda 3 looks appealing. I am only going to buy new. Had a near fatal due to a certified used car. Never again I swore at the time.
can't really go wrong with a Mazda 3 I would suggest you go for the larger 2.5 I-4 engine since it's gets the same Real world fuel economy as the 2.0 but will make your commute more enjoyable/less stressful to drive esp. merging onto the FWY, passing slower traffic and scooting in and out of city traffic.
I would also Suggest you try out the Mazda 6 & Ford Fusion and see what you think since in the end you have to live the vehicle and drive it everyday and sometimes giving up a few MPG for more interior space and a more comfortable ride is worth it depending on the length and time it takes to do your commute everyday.

Thanks. Looks like we are going to be driving some soon.
