hey

i don't know a lot about cars, but i was checking my tire pressure today and i noticed that one of my wheels doesn't look too good. haven't noticed it before. it's a crappy '95 chevy cavalier z24. i guess i need a new tire but i'm not sure. maybe one of you guys know

You should.

Those cracks in the sidewalls will give you trouble. Be particularly careful in the highways at high speeds in which heat might make the problem even worse.

Your tires are not safe for you or other drivers on the road.

Sorry, diddiyo, but you asked . . .

I wouldn't drive to the corner on those tires. Although the tread doesn't look too bad, the sides look kinda old and deteriorated. How old are the tires? Are they exposed to the elements all the time (no garage, etc)?

Remember, your tires are your only contact with the road.

It looks like that tire was driven while very low on air for a long time.

Looks alot like dry rot. In any case that tire is shot. It needs to be replaced and is unsafe to drive on.

That's exactly what the guy at the carshop said when i bought a new tire this morning. he also checked the other tires as well but apparently I don't have to replace them at this point.
