I sell laptops often on CL and there's always someone giving me their "sob" story wanting to make payments. We're talking measly $100 laptops here.
Anymore I use a "throw away" phone number and require communication via texting only for my sales. Definitely cuts down on all of the BS and drama from folks wanting to talk your ear off... and it seems to result in more serious buyers.
When someone on CL texts me begging to talk via phone... it always results in some "sob" story. I can sense it a mile away. I don't even bother replying.
Yep, I use a google voice number that is attached to my phone. So texts come to my google app on my phone. Regular texts come to my messenger app on phone.

I recently sold a truck on C-list......listed at $7500, book value was $4500. Had a guy that sounded just like Tracey Morgan calling daily to tell me it was clean, he wanted it but it was overpriced. I told him to come see it and bring some cash! He was stunned on the last day when I said it sold.
Truck sold in 5 days to the 3rd person that came to see it and it sold for $7000. First two "buyers" were flaky, one kid was looking "for his dad" and the other was going to buy it with money from his mom but he had to check it out first. Luckily both were never heard from again and only wasted about 15 minutes of my life.
I just find it funny when checking out the Craigslist Wanted ads. I see posts everyday of people wanting to setup a payment plan for cars.
Really! The only reason you want a personal payment plan is you don't have enough credit to get a car loan. We're talking $2-3 thousand only.
Who would be dumb enough to take them up on those offers

I get a kick out of the people on craigslist that want to "rent" a car from a private party. The ad usually has a line something like, "Maybe you have an extra car you don't use."

and with your luck a couple of weeks later you get the DEA busting your door down because your car was being used for running drugs from the border
