I like them to be low lips or 1 or 2 inches off the trunk and that is all. The large ones look ridiculous and everybody that has one knows it. A lot of posers deck out their cars, but don't have anything under the hood, they just want to look fast with an i4. The quiet yet deadly look is always the best, that's JDM style at it's finest. Interestingly, I live in an area with a lot of latinos and they tend to be the ones that deck out a turd most often than not.

The GTR stock spoiler is nice:
This 370Z spoiler is nice:
That GTR looks so awesome in black and very intimidating, you just know not to mess with that thing unless you have something that can seriously stand a chance, or just give it a good run.
For most vehicles I prefer them with rear spoilers, especially on the earlier generation Chevrolet Camaro's/Pontiac Firebird's, fox body Mustang's and sporty vehicles.
It depends. If it is one of these monstrosities, definitely without!
But if it conforms with the general styling of the car, it's not something that would bother me.
Nothing says PERFORMANCE like a Honda Civic with a spoiler:
That is hilarious!
I like the spoiler on my 2007 Chevy Aveo LS5. If I'd ordered the car new I probably wouldn't have got one, but I bought it used (only 6121 miles) and I really liked it.
For driving on public roads, a spoiler doesn't need to be very tall or big to provide adequate downforce for reasonable speeds. 3"-4" can deliver 200 lbs of downforce at 90 mph (the 996 Porsche GT2 specs.)
Most of the aftermarket spoilers out there aren't providing much downforce, just increasing drag.
As to what looks good on a car... well, that's entirely car specific, but I think generally speaking, aftermarket wings look stupid and out of place on most cars they are on.
Unless you really have the power to lose traction at high speed, they are useless, and as silly as having a 200mph speedometer on a Honda Civic. Now this (1970 Superbird) one was a bit extreme but was effective and got banned from racing due to unfair advantage.
I weigh over 200 lbs and can stand on top of that wing with no worries of it breaking. How much pressure was put on it while doing 200 mph at Daytona/Talledega? That's part of why it was efficient and banned.
What's funny is Bill Elliot's 85 Ford Thunderbirds had sloping back windows and were narrower than stock which allowed him to set speed records while merely qualifying. They weren't banned.
Without. Most are look like add-ons which they are.
