Maybe i never noticed before but here is my question....

I was driving tonight and noticed the temperature gauge slightly above 1/2. Then when idling it went back down to 1/2. Heat works a/c works. No warning lights on the dash coming on.

Is this normal or is it a warning of a coming problem? I have not checked the coolant level yet as i just got back a bit ago and its still hot but I will first thing tomorrow morning in the day light. I am due for an oil change as well. (not sure if that has any effect?)

The temp gauge moving is your thermostat opening and closing.....normal. Some vehicles move more than others.
Thanks.

Some cars move a lot more than others. The temperature gauge on the Saturn S-series would fluctuate between the 3/8 and 3/4 mark. I first thought I had an overheating problem, but it turns out that is normal operation for those cars in city traffic. The cooling fan doesn't turn on until the temperature gauge gets up to 3/4.

Well i checked the coolant and it is below the max line- its about 1/2 full, so i could use a bit more.
As for temp, today we did a bit of driving and the needle didnt hit above 1/2.
