The first 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat to come off the production line recently rolled through an auction block and, not surprisingly, fetched a good amount of money. Challenger SRT Hellcat VIN #0001 sold for $825,000 this weekend at a Barrett-Jackson auction held at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Even if I had money like that to play with, I could never spend that much money on a car. I would just wait and pay regular sticker price for the same car. Good for him though, and I really like that Hellcat challenger. I watched the video on motor trend.com over the weekend about the hellcat, and that's one fast car with an awesome sound.

Do you think they are going to build enough of them where you will get one for regular sticker?

This is nothing new. People often think that the first of anything automatically is going to have value and the auction house is going to capitalize on that and donate 100% of the proceeds to charity. Throw a charity into the mix and bids almost always go higher. (tax writeoff maybe)
The same thing happened for the first 2014 Camaro Z/28, the first 2015 Mustang and the first C7 Corvette which sold for over a million.

Maybe the problem some people have is that it is American cars getting this type of attention and exorbitant sums of money. I doubt the first 2015 Camry will fetch anything over sticker.

There are many reasons these cars fetch this type of money.
1. Extremely rich folk have no problem blowing a million on a car.
2. It is for charity, so I wouldn't be surprised if said millionaire writes this off
3. These are milestone cars. i.e. The Z/28 has been out of production for a long time and now comes back. The C7 Corvette is a complete redesign. The 2015 Mustang is the 50th anniversary. The Dodge Viper comes back into production. The Hellcat is the highest HP from a production sedan.

Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised if you see a Barrett-Jackson auction in 5-10 years with these same cars rolling across the block with 10 miles on the odometer. These cars won't be driven. They will get parked in hopes of a larger paycheck in the years to come. (unless they end up in a museum or something)
