On the topic of oil changes, Wal-Mart stocks the usual selection of brand name motor oils (Valvoline, Quaker State, Pennzoil, etc.). They also carry their own store brand, called Super Tech or some such, that's noticeably cheaper than the others. The wife insists that I avoid the store brand oil on the grounds of "it'll break down faster than the good oils".
I dunno - not being an expert on the subject, is the Wal-Mart brand oil comparable in performance to the others? My truck is pretty much a "go to work and come home" vehicle so I don't really put a lot of demands on the engine.

A few years back I was visiting a motor oil testing lab. They metioned that Walmart's SuperTech is a very good oil and tests well. I use it also. No problems.
If you listen to the folks at Blackstone, who actually test all motor oils and how they wear in engines, anything will do fine. That said, most people prefer brands for specific additives and marketing.
I have used SuperTech full synthetic before. My positive experience is relatively meaningless statistically. Although I usually buy Mobil 1 (just $21.77 for 5qts at Walmart yesterday) I would have no qualms about ST oil.
Their oil filters were much better than the POS Fram units (based on inspection of the internals).
Not all areas of the US has Walmarts oils being bottled by Warren. Some of the far north is by Safety Kleen, especially the synthetics. In the south in my area it's bottled by Lee Oil of Kentucky and the product in the bottle is Exxon/Mobil. It's all formulated to API standards. While there are better oils on the shelves, there are also many fleets that have Walmart as their lubrication center using Walmart oils. There are a lot of these vehicles with over 300,000 miles on the clock.

I have used Supertech and I have read reviews that say its a great oil. But the $5 saving ain't worth it if it gives you ear ache at home from the wife.....happy wife = happy life.
My wife never care what I put in her cars, I actually have to beg for her to park the car for 2 hours so I can change the oil, so at least you are ahead there.
I have used ST for the last 15+ yrs and never had an issue. Just use the correct API/weight etc. It is all marketing.
Yeah, the savings isn't that much. This is for synthetic
5 QT of Mobil/Pennzoil = $25 regular price
5 QT of Walmart Brand = $17?
4 cylinder vehicles usually only take 5 quarts. So you're saving $8 over six months? Especially with oil change intervals of 7500-10K miles these days
