On the freeway a driver realizes that they have incorrectly chosen their exit. Instead of continuing through the exit and finding another way, they choose to put their vehicle in reverse on the ramp, in the midst of 70mph traffic and then re-enter the freeway.

I see this about twice a year, and there are few words to describe how angry I become at these people for being so absolutely imbecile. 2 years ago I was rear ended in the the process of stopping for traffic that was braking for one of these fools, they all drove off, the guy who hit me and myself were stranded in the middle of a highway split. Earlier this year, same thing, near accident for about 5 cars for someone doing this on a split. Yesterday I witnessed it again, some lady creeping backwards down the ramp into 70mph traffic, luckily I was on the other side of the freeway.

Please, don't ever do this.

Or the ones who forgot their exit is coming up and swerve from the far left lanes to get to the exit ramp on right. Of course endangering everyone else on the road

some actually remember perfectly and do it just because they don't want to be in right lane and lose 1 second of their lives.

I once backed up on a ramp (on its narrow shoulder) to get to a woman who was walking on the ramp and needed help. I was really scared doing it and can't imagine making that move merely because I'd taken the wrong exit.

I saw this fairly often when I lived in Jacksonville FL and in other cities in FL. Also would see people slam on their brakes on the highway when they realized they'd missed their exit, and back up while ON THE FREEWAY. That state has the worst drivers I've ever seen.

Despite the outrage here, I can't imagine someone not to have done it at least once in their lifetime.

Imagine.

I've never once put my car in reverse and backed up an off-ramp.

Yeah, seen that a few times as well. Once when there wasn't even a shoulder. Guy's just backing up in the traffic lane. Fortunately the freeway wasn't crowded so only a few cars had to swerve around him. You're NOT expecting a completely stopped car in a traffic lane, let alone one going backwards at 10-20 mph.

Then again, people also get on freeways which is pretty dumb too. Still, there's a difference between someone who really shouldn't be allowed to drive in the first place due to incompetence accidentally getting on the freeway going the wrong direction and someone who shouldn't be allowed to drive because they lack enough common sense to handle something as responsible as being allowed to drive.

Nope, I've never done that. Hell, I get pissed at people driving on regular city roads who can't figure out what lane they need to be in and cut across several lanes to make their turn.

You know what I do if I realize I'm going to miss my turn? I simply make the next turn and turn around safely. I don't freak people out and cut across multiple lanes, or slam on my brakes to make an exit.

Then again, I'm also one of the people who never texts while driving, and very rarely will even make a phone call while driving. Probably can't imagine that, either.
