All, I am wondering if you have encountered the below problem with your car. I start my car remotely everyday in winters from the living room (Honda). When I go outside 10 minutes later, for some weird reason my husbands car would be on too (Mitsubishi)! This doenst happen everyday but it has happened often enough. What could be causing this? I manually switch his car off using his keys.
have you come across something like this?
Were the remote starts added after you purchased the cars? Are they the same brand aftermarket product - same remotes?
Yes, the starters were purchased after we bought the cars. Both starters are by Viper.
Or did the cars come from Honda and Mitsubishi with the remote starts installed by the factory?
No, see above.
When you say "I manually switch his car off using his keys." Why do you do that? When do you do that?
Well, when I switch that button which stops the car, it wouldnt work. So, I get into the car, switch it on and then switch it off. I hope you know what I mean.
You need to contact Viper or the installer, this sounds like the root of your problem.
I made an appointment (not for another 10 days) with the dealers but I am curious though as to what could be causing this. When they do that programming, dont they make sure it would work for a specific car?

I believe the remotes are coded to the remote start computer at the factory, not familiar with Viper so I can't say for sure.
this reminds me of when remote control toys are made to use the same frequency (you'll see something like a 48hz sticker) and since we bought two, one remote happens to run both at the same time. Have your installer address the issue - it is their problem.
Viper uses "rolling codes" to keep hackers from stealing your frequency out of the air. Rolling codes transmit at a different freq each time. Some only have like 68 different freqs, others have trillions. Sounds like once in a while you are transmitting a freq that both cars happen to be looking for at the same time. It's rare, but it happens.
