Need to purchase a truck in the next month to haul a heavy load 1x/month. The truck will be used as one of our regular vehicles for the remainder of each month, not putting a lot of miles on it aside from the 4 hr r/t, 1x a month.
We're looking at two trucks. Budget is ~$40K. First choice was an F-250 or F-350 but have not found one in our price range.
Truck #1- 2012 Dodge, fully fully loaded, pristine condition. 90K miles, $43K
Truck #2- 2011 Dodge. Bare bones, good condition. 45K miles, $36K
Both diesel engines.

Truck is for my husband. He would enjoy the bells and whistles but not a must. truck #1 is gorgeous. (As it should be for $43K.) Truck #2 is just fine and would get the job done. How much of a big deal is 90K miles on a diesel engine? fwiw, we take really good care of our vehicles.

Or should we keep looking? We're in S. Texas- lots of trucks!

Those diesels should last 500k miles. I'd rather have a nice higher mileage one that was well cared for.

I would keep looking. Neither truck sounds that good to me.

Not necessary 1st choice but 4x4, F250, under 30k

*** Ford 2011 F250 XLT 4X4 Crew Cab ***

2013 Duramax Dually 32k much higher milage though.

90K miles on the Cummins is not a big drawback ...

but the condition of the rest of the truck is.

Verify that all of the other services have been performed. Especially important are the transmission & diff fluid changes per schedule, coolant maintenance, etc.

In my experience ... and I own them both, 3/4 ton powerstroke and dodge/cummins trucks used as Farm/Work trucks ... the Ford chassis/running gear is far superior to the Dodge. YMMV.

do you really need a Diesel OP since you can save alot of money by going with the the 6.2 Gasser V-8 in the Ford Super duty or the 6.4 Hemi V-8 in the 2013 and up Ram Heavy Duty

I would suggest that you go to autotrader.com.

Put in your zip code, the $40k plus check the certified box and you'll find a lot more better trucks to choose from !!!

Seems high.

$43K gets you a 2012 Laramie Limited 2500HD Cummins 4x4 22k miles"

It has everything, heated/cooled seats, heated wheel, memory, navigation, backup cam, etc.

How heavy of a load are you hauling? Is a diesel a must? Those prices are awful high for that high of mileage.

Here is one in Texas fully loaded but with the 5.7ltr Hemi (400lbs of torque should haul anything I would think)for $35K and only 43K miles on it.

Ha, a Power Wagon can barely tow more than a 1/2 ton due to the off road suspension. Not a good choice for towing heavy loads. If you go the gasser route, definnitely get a 2014+ with the 6.4L.
