Get a '14 or '15 Acura MDX for $40K. Probably best route.

3rd row in the MDX is very tight. Ford Flex is roomy.

I haven't visited this thread in a while but here is an update..It looks like we will be getting a Highlander in the next few days. We threw the MDX in the mix, but the wife likes the Highlander more. The Edge is really making me mad..The screen will not come back on and the Ford dealership wont look at it till next week. THat along with a few other small problems we have been having pushed us closer to getting a new vehicle.

The Highlander is a good vehicle, and meets the criteria. My SIL wanted a Highlander too, since she liked the look/feel better, as it was less truck-like than the Pilot, but ended up with a Pilot Touring because they could not find a Highlander with the equipment they wanted. The MDX was in the running, too, but it did not seat eight, which was a consideration for when they have friends of their children along for a trip to the zoo or amusement park. She wanted to stay with a mid-size, which is why the Yukon was out of the running.

You're not the first person I have heard complain about tech issues in an Edge. Two friends have gone away from Ford because of issues with the Edge, and another with similar complaints in an Escape. It sounds like the dealership does not know what to do with the car, so they try the same fixes, which would be very frustrating. You should not experience anything similar with a Highlander.
