My 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid just had its second transmission go out just short of 400K miles. R.I.P. little buddy.

Looking for 2009 or newer, <$10K. Automatic, 4 doors. Don't really care about much else. Use a combo of fuel economy/power as a tiebreaker.

Any ideas?

How about another Honda? Seems like you got your money's worth out of your last one!

If you liked the hybrid, consider a Toyota Prius. You should be able to get a pretty nice 2009 for $10K.

I drive a 2015, bought new, but I have about 45K miles on it now and haven't had any problems. Talking with those who have older Prii, they seem to be bullet-proof.

I bought my Prius for economy. Period. I drive around 35K per year, so I wanted something that sips gas. It does. I wasn't crazy about it at first. It's my first ever economy car, and I've mostly driven manual transmissions for the past 50+ years. It's kind of noisy and likes to go with the wind -- even when the wind is blowing across the road! However, the more I drive it, the better I like it. I do like it now. The 45 mpg doesn't hurt. (I drive 80 mph on the interstate, 70 on other highways -- Wyoming's speed limits.) It's roomier than you'd think -- for up to 4 people.

There are lots of options in your range, which is pretty general. If the '05 has been the primary vehicle you drove for a very long time, I suggest you go sit in, touch, feel, drive, and look out the back window of some newer cars. Safety standards have changed, rear decklids are higher, interiors are significantly different, and the Korean manufacturers have added a lot of options to compete against US and Japanese models.

If you are driving 36k a year as the mileage suggests, then this needs to be a very personal decision that you can live with for a while.

Yeah, things have changed some. I used that Honda for work for several years, the last couple of years it sat most of the time, and I would only use it for cross-town trips that I'd take by myself. My wife wouldn't drive it if our Jeep was here.

Neither one of us commute. We run errands, and go out on weekends.

By Tesla 3. Yes, I know you budgeted $10K for it.
Otherwise, I second Prius suggestion. Reliable, much better hybrid power train than Honda, as Honda had ton of battery issues, and better mpg than Civic Hybrid.

Actually for an around town utility car, the Prius is hard to beat.

From what I have heard, the more recent Honda automatics are not that reliable.
