I hear Volvo encourages special factory orders and will even send you on a vacation trip to Europe to go pick it up...

Overseas Delivery | Volvo Cars
European delivery is certainly a great option. If you have the time, I'd highly encourage it. Just about all of the manufactures will offer it. But some models won't qualify for discounts (which is normally pretty good with Euro Delivery). And some dealers in the US are better at arranging it than others. So if you are in the market for a European car, check out the enthusiast forums. Most will have an area dedicated to the European/Factory Delivery experience.

Generally - As with anything else, I would say it comes down to the person(s) you are dealing with.

In the past few years (just under two), I have purchased two fully loaded Silverado pickups.
First was ordered by a small dealer in Southern Utah. I walked in with the sheet run off from the Chevy's build and price site, they did a look around the area, limiting it to about 300 miles and no luck (not surprisingly).

They placed the order with NO deposit and I believe it is all electronic now, and about two months later, it arrived. Salesman called me at one point and said there was a delay due to shipping (not enough trains), a week later I read an article in USA Today that yes, there were some shipping delays due to lack of train car.

Second truck was this past Friday.

Went to the one and only local Chevy dealer in Pocatello to order another loaded Silverado. Built it online, and brought the sheet into the dealer. Sales manager did a quick search, found the exact IDENTICAL Silverado in Helena MT. It matched the sheet identically, no extra options, no missing options, exact exterior and interior colors. Only thing needed were running boards, molded frt/rear mud flaps, console organizer and front hood bug deflector (all are dealer installed accessories).

Gave me the option to get this one, or order, I chose to go ahead with the truck from MT. No deposit required, and never been to this dealer before last week. Due to weather conditions, they waited until today to get the vehicle, and I pick it up tomorrow.

And I'll add that both were purchased at GM employee price. Not an employee, but have relative who is.

At that point you wan to go straight to the sales manager - let him handle the paperwork, or at least review it with you when complete.

There are a lot of packages that add/delete equipment and you need someone who knows what you want and how best to get it.

You might want Nav. but not a sun roof - the way manufacturers pack these vehicles for max. profit in sinful.
