Just a little more than 20 years ago--I'll go with the late 80's Buick Grand National with the 3.8 litre V6. Probably the fastest car per dollar than any in history. And still would get 25 mpg on the highway as a daily driver.
Slightly older than 20 years, but our old 1993 Nissan Sentra was excellent. I wish we still had her. My Dad sold her in 2004. We got so many offers on that car while we had it, and even today it is still highly sought after apparently. It was usually Hispanics and Mexicans that asked us if we were selling it. I know that they are still producing & selling these in Mexico. Great car.
'97 Ford Powerstroke.
The last year for the old, boxy pickups fitted with a phenomenal diesel motor and rock solid manual transmission.
We've had ours since '03.
I have a 1993 Dodge Stealth that I've owned for 19 years. They only made them from 1991 to 1996, so they're relatively rare and most people have no idea what it is when they see it. I've put more than 228,000 miles on it and it's still the original motor. I occasionally autocross and road course it, but it's mainly a show car now. It won Best in Show at the last National Gathering for Stealths and 3000GT's, which are mechanically the same cars.
Of all the cars I've driven in the last decade (tons of passenger cars and SUV's when I worked for ford, my 370z, z06, ws6, the zr1 on the track, etc.etc.), one of my friend's cars, a 2013 BRZ is the most impressive for the dollar and funnest car I've been behind the pedals of. Once my Jeep grand cherokee is paid off, I'd love to pick up a very low mile brz or frs. I know some people will look at the list of cars I've owned or tracked and not "get it", but that's my answer.
