Lots of BMW X5-s and X6-s are driven by overweight leather jacket wearing Russian maffia types doing 50 km/h above the speed limit.

Audis are more of a "construction worker working in Norway making big money" type of car. A6-s everywhere, especially around construction sites, heh. Many owners also go for the successful businessman vibe.

Lexus is different as it's the only luxury brand that's worth the money. It lasts forever even on crappy roads. They're less powerful and hybrid which seems to keep the lowlife thug types away.

A common theme is young hot blondes driving newish luxury vehicles. But hey, they probably "worked" for it.

In general there's a lot of showing off going on as few people here can actually afford those cars. Living in a studio apartment and driving a BMW 7 series is a depressingly common way of life here.
So what do doctors and lawyers drive in Germany? Not all of them can afford a Porsche!

No idea, but from what I've heard people in Western Europe mostly drive small diesel engine cars and aren't that concerned with the status aspect of it. No need to show off. Even huge mansions have small Toyotas and Fiats parked in front.

Here you go to the ****tiest part of town and it's nothing but the big three.

You see that around here too. They belong to the housekeeper and nanny. The luxury car is parked in the garage.

Very popular, more than half of the homes in the neighborhood have one or more Audi, Mercedes or BMW parked out front.

Popularity goes in that order. Audi is by far the most owned of the 3, and their Avant models have replaced the ubiquitous "volvo wagon" of years past. Newer neighbors that have moved in since the real estate market recovered typically have Mercedes.

What you don't see are many Volvo, Cadillac, Lexus, Infiniti or Acura.

Very few in the Western North Carolina mountains. Here it's mostly Subaru, Jeep and then just any and every generic SUV and pickup truck.

My neighbors to the right of me have a BMW 5 series and 3 other "normal" cars. Neighbors to the left have a Mercedes (I think E class) and an Escalade. Neighbors across the street have an Audi S6, a Tahoe, and some other little car.

Basically, the adults around here are driving the BMW/Audi/MB while their kids have the Civics, Accords, etc. Two streets over where the houses are not as expensive, it looks like every family has at least one truck.

VW, BMW, and Mercedes all have design centers here in the area. VW also keeps a repair and warranty center here as well. BMW and Mercedes have auto processing facilities here as well as corporate office space.

The Oxnard Auto Center ( Oxnard Auto Center - Ventura County Car Dealerships | New & Used ) has a Mercedes, Smart, Audi, as well as Lexus, Infinity, Cadillac, Lincoln, brands, along with Toyota, Scion, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Ford, Buick, and GMC. Camarillo to the east of us maybe 12 miles away has a BMW and Minnie Dealership. Ventura maybe 8 miles to the North West has a VW dealership. All are doing very well. Thousand Oaks, Ca has a Mercedes and a Porsche dealership maybe 25 or so miles from my home.

All of these cars are popular brands in my area. I do see a lot of people that finance these cars and maybe can not afford them. Our office coordinator has a beautiful late model 3 series and she has to stretch to make the payments. She had been driving an older 320 I for years.
