Anyone have experience with compact trucks and their longevity? I need a truck that will easily go past 200-250k miles, with medium-duty hauling most of the days of the week, probably 50% of the miles will be stop-and-go city miles, other 50% smooth highways, frequently traveling on I-95 between South Carolina and New Jersey (includes heavy DC and NOVA traffic).

I'm not too experienced with trucks, other than 2 trucks I shared with my dad a long time ago -a 1993 Ford Ranger and 1995 Mazda B-series. Both of them lasted 250k miles and then sold to private parties, in bad winters, salty roads, stop-and-go driving, no break-downs and cheap maintenance.

Toyota Tacoma, the new Chevy Colorado, GMC Sierra, Nissan Frontier, Honda Ridgeline? Am I missing any others?

I know the Toyota Tacoma is known as the toughest and most reliable? But old technology? Chevy Colorado looks nice, but how about reliability? Should I consider the Nissan or Honda? Is Ford ever going to come out with a Ranger-type truck or are they done with compact-midsize trucks?

Weight will be a facort but the Rridge Line and Tacoma are known good small trucks. The new Chev is supposedly medium and very tempting;but unknow really.

Old Toyota's...insurgents all over the world love those things...I think Top Gear even imploded a building with one sitting ontop...they drove it off the building and into their studio. It's the most indestructible vehicle every invented.

Agreed. They are stronger and longer lasting than the energizer bunny. They just keep going and going and going and going....

Toyota Tacoma all the way. I'd maybe look at a Nissan Frontier. However, I'd totally go the toyota route.

Tacoma, but it hasn't been a "compact" truck in years.

Is it true that the Tacomas have plastic beds and lack a box frame that has been known to have severe rust problems? These are just some issues I read about when I was looking for a midsize truck.

My brother had a 2000 s10 that was bulletproof. Only faults were starter issues and the fan clutch. Other than that, he used it a lot for hauling heavy loads and it took a beating. I mean a real beating! You just have to put a 100 lbs or so in the back when it snows to get the extra traction. My only complaint was it was sluggish. But it wasn't built for speed and still maintained around 25mpg.

From a guy who has driven F150s and F250s all of his life:

Go with the Tacoma!

OP why not find a CPO 2011 Ford Ranger SOHC 4.0 V6 with low miles since you had such good luck with them and it's Mazda B-series Twin in the past also would suggest a current base model Domestic Big-3 1/2 ton V6.

Also Remember that Suzuki had the Equator which like the Ford Ranger/Mazda B-series was a twin of the Nissan F-truck platform like the Nissan Titan and Nissan Frontier but sell for alot less due to the Suzuki badge on the grill so the can be great truck bargains.
