This is coming from a 2014 Subaru Forester. Sounds like a common issue with Subaru CVT's and wondering if it's this way with all CVT's.

Literally takes 2 seconds to shift from reverse to drive. Yes doesn't sound that long but feels like an eternity compared to regular automatic transmissions.

My Altima never had that issue...
CVTs rely a whole lot on computer software... Could be that this is just a result of how Subaru has them programmed in their cars.

There might be a slight learning curve if this is your first CVT.

If this is a new issue and it never did it before, get thee to the Subie dealer ASAP.

No, it's been this way from the beginning. Not sure what learning curve there is. Shift into gear and press gas pedal. I understand there is a delay when transitioning from reverse to drive thus the delay in pressing the gas pedal.

The subaruforster.org article discusses the electronics and how they react to certain driving styles, it was very interesting. Supposedly there is a difference in getting used to them. They rely on belts to change the gears and clutch packs rather than fluid and a hydraulic valve body. It's pretty fascinating stuff IMO......

That really doesn't have to do much with his issue of shifting in between reverse and drive.

What model do you have (XT/Turbo or N.A.)?

The Sub. forums have many knowledgeable people post your question there (link posted several replies to go above - CCc girl) you'll probably get many more relevant answers.

Yes I understand Subaru CVT's have this characteristic. Just wondering if this was common among other CVT's?

Mine is NA model.

Not sure if you will still read this or not, but my 2016 Legacy has the same exact issue. I have a 2012 Legacy as well that I'm pretty sure has a CVT tranny. However, my 2012 does not have the delay issue. This delay literally drives me crazy, and I honestly don't think it's very safe. I live on a very busy street, and that 2-second delay makes all the difference when backing into the street.
