Friend of mine is a coupon nut and thinks if she pays for her upcoming new car with a credit card she'll get mega coupons/points for using the credit card, of course she will pay off the full amount at the end of the month, is this possible? any problems doing it this way?

Good luck - most dealerships do not take credit cards for full payment or even partial payment. They loose money on the credit card fees.

I used credit card $2,000.00 as deposit on new car.

Don't think many dealerships will take credit car for full price on new car.

Used cars - maybe.

One issue for dealers with customers using credit card is that buyer can contest charges with a credit card slowing up the entire process.

And, of course, the fees. You do realize that someone has to pay for all of those "points" that many credit cards offer. And it is not the bank.

My father bought a used Ranger with credit card instead of cash when he asked if he could do it at the ford dealer.

I agree that--at most--the customer's deposit can be paid for with a credit card.

However, if the dealership's money is "loose", then they probably need to tighten-up their fiscal policies.
Otherwise, they could lose money...

Depends on the dealership. I bought our last SUV on a credit card, they didn't care. I got 2.2% cash back from the credit card company and had 0% APR which was better than financing. They were a pretty high end dealership though, had a few Maseratis and such on the lot, so our transaction wasn't that big of a deal to them.

When we bought out our lease late last year, the dealer let us put $5k on our AMEX.

The typical cost to the retailer for processing through a CC is 2% so they are reluctant to take it unless they see a clear way to make up that cost.

Correct...depends on the seller....they can add what they are losing...
if they want to make the sale.

I know a Chiropractor that the credit card was disputed...patient
thought they were not helped enough!
Gee...so it certainly can happen.

But I think gaining points is brilliant!

I've purchased two vehicles in the last two years or so, from dealers, and gotten far better deals by having cash in hand than any gimmicky rebate I would have gotten using a credit card. Money talks.
