My garage is so small prior owner had nothing in it and owned a volkswagon Beatle and there were chips in drywall as he would hit it when he opened door.

I used to keep my two seater convertible in it for around ten years. I would put a blanket on car then put my coolers, beach chairs, luggage rack for SUV, xmas and holloween decorations etc on top of car. Reverse to get it out. I have no basement in house so garage is for storage.

Also tons of houses near me have garage doors but no garage as converted to den.

My wives full size SUV will not even fit in the door of garage. Impossible to fit.

You do realize some towns have plot sizes that are 30x60. Some towns are 40x100 and my town is 60x100.

An oversized lot in a lot of towns is 80x100.

A 120x140 shop if you recall the bungalows damaged in Sandy pictures given the 30x60 plots of some bungalows would have 8 houses on it.

I almost bought a bungalow at the beach and it was on a 30x80 lots. House was 750 square feet, no basement with a detached garage. The garage is only storage. On that block I never see a car in a a garage and a lot of houses knocked down garage to get more backyard

Because we're renting from my mother in law, and 2/3 garage stalls are full of her junk that she won't let me clean out, and I re arranged some stuff so I could fit a few of our things in there leaving little to no room for a car

It's mostly people that keep too much crap/clutter that do not/cannot use their garage for their vehicles. Then theres the small percentage of folks that have tiny garages and vehicles that are too large for them (even if empty). Honestly, I don't care what others do with their garage space. Each to their own.

Many people use the garage for storage of stuff, like snowblowers, lawn mowers, etc that don't fit in the house and don't leave much room for cars in the garage.

This is us.. 2 x classic MOPARs, and lots of fishing/boating tackle.. Our daily drivers don't mind being in the driveway..They have a good coat of wax,,

Trouble with many basements is that they are prone to flooding. And if not they are usually finished as living space.

Well..... right now my garage is filled with "stuff", but when I get that cleaned out and cleaned up, I will be able to get at least one in. Two is always tough.

Because there's 3 snowmobiles, 2 quads and a Polaris RZR 800 in it.

Although my goal this summer is to change some things around be able to use it for our cars next winter.

Yup...this! ^^^

We don't have a basement so most of our storage is in the garage. Hockey bags and equip are out there, baseball equip, our old kitchen is installed in the garage (fridge too), all of his tools, the boat, 6 bikes..etc.

HOA won't allow that stuff to be stored outside and we cannot have a shed, so all of that goes in the garage while the 3 cars stay on the driveway.
