Thanks for the responses. I'm mainly looking at diesels. I'll be towing horses and occasionally a boat. I think that every 3/4 ton out there has more than enough power to pull what I need though, so it really comes down to the comfort and features. I'll give them all a test drive and try to figure it out. Thanks again.
both trucks are good ones to consider. at this point stop test driving them, with a salesman in the other seat. what you want to do now is rent each truck for a weekend. that way you can put each truck though their paces and truly decide which one you want.
so say this weekend rent the GMC, and then do everything you would normally do for the next two days with the truck. haul a boat, haul horses, drive down the interstate, live with it in the city, etc. then the mext weekend do the same thing with the ford. after each drive, write down everything you liked about each truck, and everything you didnt like. after you have driven each truck for a weekend, compare notes on both trucks, and then decide.

That's true but you will be renting a bare bones model. I'm 99.999% sure you can't rent a $70,000 Platinum F250.

The difference between my 06 GMC Sierra 2500 6.0 gas 4x4 base model and my 05 GMC 2500 Sierra SLE diesel driving them is night and day difference. The 06 I almost regret buying it, because the other one puts its to shame in all aspects. 6.0 struggles mightily to pull my 28 ft enclosed lawn service trailer, while diesel does it no problem. What I'm getting at is driving the bare bones one is nothing like driving the highest end one. But driving my 04 GMC 1/2 ton is much more comfortable then either.

since there is no difference in drive trains between the more basic models, and the high end models, assuming he rents a basic truck with the drive train he is planning on buying, then he is just comparing the performance of the truck, and the rest is just the added luxury of the high end model. for instance if he rents the ford and get the diesel engine because he is planning to buy a diesel engined ford, he gets the same drive train. its not like ford sells one diesel engine for use in base trucks, and one for the high end trucks.
If I were dropping $70K on a truck, I'd expect the dealer to loan it to me for the weekend.
They've offered to do so when I was looking at 1/2 ton trucks.
that is certainly another option, if the dealer is willing.
