How'd you get from a 2008 Wrangler vs the alternative of paying $50k for a new vehicle? You can buy a perfectly suitable replacement for $30k brand new.

Had a 2006 that I just sold a few months ago. Had 95k miles and gave me 4 years of payment free driving. Now my dd is a 2013. 5 payments down and 55 to go!

All our cars are 3 years old or less right now. Typically, I keep my DD between 3 and 5 years, with the reasons for making changes varying greatly.

I do not lease because I find little value in leasing personally. Until very recently I drove way too much (20K+ miles a year), and also do not like being tied into a schedule of when I will be back in the market. Besides, I really only see "convenience" tied into a lease, where there is no trade in to negotiate or car to sell when buying a new one, but that this does not come with a true financial advantage for me.

Both of our cars are 10 years old, each a 2005. each has little issues, but most can be repaired by yours truly. I do get tired of crawling up under cars. I'm an actor, not a damn mechanic! But I'm also a broke-actor, so necessity breeds -------

Glad they are paid for. About to buy another car though for a 15 almost 16 year old girl. Probably gonna be a 72 Ford LTD in flat black with a brush bar on the front.

2005/2012/2015

I drive each (obviously one at a time) as "daily" drivers, but not really daily. I have two houses so they can sit in the garage unused for weeks at a time.

My daily driver is 3 years old. Having to drive around daily to take kids here/there with 10-15 minutes to spare, I need to make sure it's reliable. I prefer to buy something brand new, drive it for 8-10 years so that I "know" the vehicle. Buying something used is risky for me (even though I can fix it myself).

My weekend work vehicle is 11 years old with 170K miles. Bought it used a few months ago so I am still "learning" the vehicle. Don't trust it enough yet.

We will probably never buy a brand new car again. My current DD is a 2008 and when that dies I may go even older as I am not a fan of the new cars being manufactured. I don't like car payments but I also don't like the amount of money my state charges each year to register a new vehicle. Worse case scenario is id have to put a couple thousand a year into an older vehicle in repairs...it beats $4800 a year in car payments assuming a car payment is $400 a month. As long as you keep up with the maintenance an older car is just as good as a new one as a DD I think.

My truck is a 02 with only 78,000 on it. I'd love to have a new one just like it but there is really nothing wrong with it and the staggering $50,000 price tag to replace it... I think I will be driving it for another dozen years.
